We wanted to celebrate Joe Stains and had Hamburger Sunday yesterday. Once again the puppies have proven training works and Pavlov was right.

I got them two Wendy's cheeseburgers and put them on plates...

Then I broke the burgers up...

Ok so since the pups were wee babies they've never had people food either on a plate (God forbid their Papi would roll around in his grave if he had one!!!) or by hand. If they get anything like that it's in their food dish. So I can leave food on a plate on an end table and not worry. ever. Which comes to Pavlov.

They're so conditioned (trained) not to take food off a plate that they wouldn't eat the hamburgers!!! Either one of them. So I broke up the burger ... Noper ... 'You said we couldn't Mommy.'

Finally I scraped it into their dishes and wolf dere it is!!! They were like rabid dogs.

WHAT IS THIS? THIS GOLDEN DELICIOUSNESS? WHY HAVE WE NEVER SEEN THIS BEFORE? NOM NOM NOM NOM NOM ......

So two things: 1st - my dogs are very well trained 2nd - I'm an idiot. I very well could have destroyed 8 years of training by trying to make them eat people food off a plate, with my blessing no less.

When the realization hit me I laughed but man... Idiot I R 1...

BLOOMFIELD, Conn. (CNN) --

An organization devoted to caring for dogs is hoping these gifts will brighten the holidays for military K-9s serving in Iraq and Afghanistan.

Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation donated some $2,000 -thousand in supplies including cooling vests for hot climates and "doggles" -- canine goggles which protect their eyes from sun and sand.

"So this is our way in the season of thanks and giving and hope and renewal to give back to the troops that have given so much for us. If we can help protect them by helping their canines, we have done our job," said Adirenne Sullivan of Fidelco.

Fidelco trains and provides guide dogs for the visually impaired.

The foundation says it understands the stresses on and the importance of military canines serving overseas.

After Spoiler died Mommy and Papi said NO MORE DOGS!!! Famouse last words right??? About 8 months after he passed Mommy and Papi were so full of woe. Who wouldn't be with no Shar Pei in their life right??? One day Papi said to Moms ' how about looking for another dog?' Mommy perks up her ears (hers kinda like a Shar Pei in that regard with the ears and all) and says 'a dog huh? ' secretly wishing for a dog a dog A DOG!!!

You see the Mommy had been heartbroke about the Spoiler leavin and all and wanted a new doggie soooooo much but didn't want to hurt Papi's feelings with talks of replacing him. Come to find out the Papi wanted a new doggie too!!!

And so... the search for a new doggie was on.... Then Papi said 'how about we get two, a brother and sister?' Mommy looked and looked far and wide and found us in Florida. We were shipped (that sounds so cold huh?) in a great big crate. We were thankfully in the same crate and all Mommy remembers is her two babies bunched up together at the back of the great big crate when she finally got to us.

Mommy here: they were 8 weeks old and sent via airplane. They were huddled in the back of this crate when I finally got to them. I went for them immediately and got me and my great big bottom stuck in the crate. My husband was laughing so hard behind us he couldn't even speak.

A year later Jerry was gone. But those puppies saved my life. And continue to do so each and every day.

You know my husband died, Jerry Sweet Sucks! But in the interim when he lived, and boy howdeee, we had another SharPei Spoiler. Jerry didn't want a dog. No Dog...No Dog...No Dog... but then I wheedled and I wheedled cause I wanted a dog. So all of a sudden (music to affect my ministrations) we found ourselves way up north where there were SharPei puppies!!! Imagine my surprise!!! This little feller Spoiler (as he was to be called) broke through Jerry Sweet's cold cold heart and he was ours!!!!

I have pictures but not enough knowledge to get them on here. baby steps...

We lived joyously with that dog for 8 years. But he died. (curiously now I think from SharPei Fever which Meja suffers from.

We mourned that dog, oh how we mourned. Never a dog again...NEVER!

Then about 8 months later, as it happened, we both started with the 'a dog would be good', 'maybe a baby dog would be good', 'maybe our hearts could open again'.....

THEN Jerry Sweet (God rest his soul) said to me 'maybe we should look for a dog.'

THEN after my looking, 'maybe two, a brother and sister!'

We are playing a game with Frankie Furter where today you tell the story of how you gots yer name. We are gonna let mommy tell the stories so take it away P P Nugget (a.k.a. our best mommy):

You know we got the babies when they were just 8 weeks old. Having been litter mates they had personalities forming for sure already. Still we waited and watched them. And soon Bobo was definitely Bobo and Meja was definitely Meja and they could not be anyone else.

In Michigan when we (Jerry and I) grew up there was a famous black Big Time wrestler named Bobo Brazil. After retirement in a rural town near here he had to fight with his image as a Bad Ass because he was really a gentle giant. After watching Bobo the Shar Pei for awhile we just kept coming back to Bobo. He IS Bobo. He swaggers. he's tough, he's Bad Ass looking but while he won't shy away from a fight with his little sister, he's a lovah not a fightah. I hope Bobo Brazil would be proud.

And Miss Meja was a delicate princess from the get go. To her Papi!!! To him she was his baby princess. Even though when we picked her up she had stitches in her lip from a fight with her brothers. She's a sneaky Bad Ass. Her 'paper' name is Meja Caliente (fiery baby girl). But she's the most loving sweet thing you'll ever know. Unless you're Bobo!!!

You know if you've read this blog for long that these puppies are my heart. And truthfully their names were somehow spoken to us, an other worldy thing really. They were meant to be ours and we were meant to be theirs.

I had to make an exciting trip to the emergency room this weekend. Blood count dropped too low, passed out, alone with pups, 911 called, dogs freaked..... Yikes!!!

But I've got new blood now and will probably go home tomorrow.

In other news, Bobo has lost his mind too!

My son called me this morning, he's looking after the pups during this brief intermission, and told me Bobo was drinking out of the raised bed, new bed that's out on the deck! It seems we had rain last night and while Selby brought the fluffy bed in he left the raised one outside. It was full of rain, so much for the wefting allowing moisture to wick through!, so Bobo drank from it!

I may contact the company and offer to write new copy for them.

This whole reviewing of the beds could be a most colossal bust. The beds came yesterday and I put them on the deck. As the deck is quite small and the beds are quite big, the pups have been scootering around the beds trying to find a place to lay. ON.THE.DECK.

It seems as though two rather large, spoiled Shar Pei puppies want me to bring the couches outside for their resting pleasure.

I got Bobo a raised bed (the Coolaroo one I wanted was discontinued, boo) and he may be too heavy for it. I hoisted (is hoist the past tense of hoist???) him on it and it sort of bowed in the middle. Yikes!

I got Meja a big juicy plush bed and she's scared of it! Yikes X 2!

It's only the first day so I'll let you know if we have better luck or they get sent back for something else.

We just got notice that our new beds, that we will review, have shipped! And not a moment too soon, as you can see from these pictures.

See that little eeensy teensy little bitty carpet square under Meja's rather voluminous bottom?

That right there is ALL we have to lie on outside!!! I know!!!

We each have one but still! On the ground???

I included this so you could see the further cruelty and humiliation we face.

See that jury rigged gate/chair combo thingy mommy put up? That is to keep us from leaving the deck!

Wha the wha??? I know!!!

Just cause we took off the other day to 'the back forty' and mommy had to come after us and she was crying and scared is no reason for these jail like conditions here at Casa de Sweet.

In other news.....

Meja has lost her mind.

From the mommy: She has taken to trying to bury her food dish. I heard this racket the other day in the kitchen and came in to find her with the rug all bunched up on top of the dish with 'black puppy' on top of the whole mess. I didn't get a picture because I had to change my pants because I peed myself from laughing!

This is now her 'thing.' I don't know if she's hoarding because Bobo's eating too much or what.

Is there a 'Doggy Hoarder's show?

She decided to take a nap during this comercial. She should have watched it.

Lord knows she and Bobo have lots-o-skin and should love it!!!

We are all well. The puppies are Great. I've been in and out of hospital but am on the mend. The warmer weather is perking me up for sure.

Oh we had the most wonderful, fantastical, magical Christmas of all!!!

Mommy's home yeah... Mommy put one of those blow up beds on the floor in the living room and we cuddled and watched old (and new) Christmas movies all day. Mommy leaked at some of the old ones (It's a wonderful life!!) but it was a perfect day really.

We had some most yummy foodables and we even went on a little walkies.

All and all we like this Christmas stuff. Hey can Christmas be like every day? Oh boy that'd be GREAT. Does anybody have Santa's number or email?

Mommy's been in and out of hospital for the last couple weeks and we weren't allowed computer access at the babysitters (We know!!! like we can't operate a computer! jeez)

But the good news is she's a lot better and home for Christmas!!! Yeah!!!

Wacko on Wednesday and a Question

Meja came in from her last potty break last night, went to bed then got up about a half hour later and was holding up one of her back legs like it was broken. I thought 'wtf she's not old like me, she can't get injured in bed!!!' Now you must know that SharPei are very stoic dogs (Meja once had two stitches put back in her eyelids without anesthetic!) so it would take a lot for her to indicate pain. So I felt every bit of the leg, hip, butt, everything (I was pretty aggressive too because of this martyr thing with these guys) and no ouchie, no flinch, no nothin. So I gave her a glucosamine and put her back to bed.

This morning she was fine! The only thing I could think was perhaps she'd gotten the pad of her foot cold and was just being a pussy! So my question to you dear internets is this:

Has anyone heard of spraying pups feet with Pam (not me the spray!) before they go out in the snow to prevent the snow from getting into the crevices and whatnot? Any thoughts if this could be harmful?

Ok now on to Wacko Wednesday

Bobo is a known sniff and charge felon. He loves smells. Hair stuff, body lotion, perfume, cologne, anything really. If you've got it on and you're in proximity to him he'll bowl you over and rub you to death. It's charming really unless we've never met you and you just happen to be visiting with another friend and we run out of chairs and you have to sit on the floor -- but I digress.

My scent has heretofore been immune to him. Until the other day. I'd changed deoderants and OH.MY.GOD. I sat down on the floor with him and you'd have thought he'd died and gone straight to heaven. I couldn't get to my camera but could reach my phone. This pic does not do the mayhem justice. (he had actually knocked me over with his head butt/rub raw maneuver)

Dennis the Visla Dog gave us this Very Nice award. But frankly Bobo's head is too big as it is so he doesn't need any more awards. So we are going to call this the Meja Award (she only has a rather large bottom but tiny head.)

Bobo update

Went in and got the stitches out today. Bobo was not.a.fan!!! It seems this vet had tied the stitches a bit too tight and she had to use forceps and scissors to get most of them out. And it was owie to him.

You see he was asleep when she put them in but not so much when she took them out. And she wanted him on the table so I had to wrangle him as still as I could so she could work. Our vet in Florida always worked with the dogs on the floor and that's what I asked her to do. She said he'd be more relaxed on the table. I said I don't fink so. But I let her talk me into it and my baby was just shaking. He came home exhausted and I came home pissed at myself for going along!

WE WILL BE LOOKING FOR A NEW VET!!!

I went to Colorado over the weekend to see 'the boy.' Great trip but three days is just too short. Now I want to move back to Colorado. I mean I really want to move back. To such an extent that I found a place to rent! Now I just have to encourage them that they NEED dogs in their lives! I mean come on how could you not???

Bobo is healing nicely. Flower stayed here with the pups and I believe let Bobo have the conehead off most of the time. When I got home last night at midnight the first thing I did was put the cone back on and he's like 'WTF mommy I've not had this thing on in three days!!!' But he was lickin the wound so Bad Mommy had to take charge.

I'll post pics of Colorado later today. Big snowstorm yesterday and it was beeyooteeful...

Bobo and the boo boo(s) now coming in plurals

The vet thought she'd be done 1 ish and they would call me as soon as Bobo was awake and around. One o'clock came and went no call. At 1:30 I called them. 'She's still in there with him we'll call YOU.' As in don't call us we'll call you.

Two thirty no call, I called again because I am nothing if not persistent. 'She's still in there with him we'll call YOU. And I think in a trying to warn me way said 'there was another tear on his side it's taking longer.' THERE WAS NO TEAR ON HIS SIDE WHEN I BROUGHT HIM THERE!!!

Three thirty no call, I called. 'Dr will call you in half hour.' Me now frantic practically screaming 'IS HE OK?' 'Dr will call you' Fuck now I'm on my way out the door.

Long story short. Bobo has paper thin skin. Meja has been able to tear it on occasion just playing. BUT he had ONE tear on his leg when I brought him there. And now there's a three inch tear on his side. Vet said she had no idea how it could have happened accept if he brushed the kennel door (could happen). She agrees that he didn't come in with it. They also nicked the fuck out of him with the razor. So he's got about 45 stitches all told.

Poor baby is soooo out of it. He's such a gentle lamb he doesn't know what he did wrong to deserve this. I shall sleep with him in my arms tonight and assure him he did nothing. This to shall pass.
BUT... he's gotta wear a cone and you know from a couple stories ago how he fares with that. Stay tuned... (I was going to post pictures but they're a bit too graphic.

Also Meja is pissed because Bobo came home and straightaway wanted to get up on the couch. So I helped him but he stretched out lengthwise and there's no room for her! The indignity, having to lay on the carpet on the FLOOR!!!

Bobo's boo boo

Bobo got into something last night and has a nasty gash on his right front leg. As soon as the vet opens at 9:00 we'll be there.

He has very thin skin that rips way to easily so he probably got into a briar patch or something. I thought I could super glue (not really super glue but liquid bandage) it but it's too ragged and deep. He keeps pulling at the bandage I've got on it so I've got him right next to me on the couch. He keeps looking up at me like 'what'd I do mommy?' All sad face.

Lordy lordy what's going on with all the babies and their owies and hurts?

Bobo is a Conehead

After reading about Mango's adventure with his brother Dexter, who has to wear a cone because he just got 'tutored,' I remembered a hilarious story about Bobo and 'The Cone.'

He and Meja both got their eyes done at the same time (SharPei are very vain and get cosmetic surgery at a very young age.) They had to have cones of course and Bobo, who is afraid of his shadow and frankly not the sharpest knife in the drawer, would hit the wall and just stand there. With the big end of the cone against the wall. I would have to gently move him away from the wall. I'm convinced he'd still be there if I hadn't moved him!

Well we humans thought this was the funniest thing ever. And truth be told it really was. But in the interest of preserving the big guy's self esteem I had to make us them stop laughing. But come on! how could you not?

Meja on the other hand was like a stealth rabbit. Bobbing and weaving whilst running about. She had things to do, people to irritate.

It's really a joy watching these two and it's amazing the different personalities they have. You'd think being brother and sister they'd have some similarities. Not.

One thing is clear though, they've a love I've never seen between two animals. There's a bond there that's really indescribable (you know my fears about this.) But I shall not speak it's name!

Good and bad could be said of this. Because they are never more than 10 feet from each other if they decide to chase Guineas at middle of the night o lordy, if I get one to come back I get two. On the other hand if I don't get one I don't get any.

That aptly describes Meja.

As I was thinking this Meja jumped on the couch. She is all but undetected. Weighing in at 37# she is able to slooth herself onto the couch with the swiftest of feets.

She is also able to bitey her brothers head in a fight causing her momma to wonder if we should go get stitches ( no bother I superglued him, and not for the first time!)

Bobo on the other hand ANNOUNCES when he's in the room! All 70#'s of him. He's just a great big ole fun bag of doofus. And we loves him so.

These are the damn guinea birds that lead my babies astray the other night. Damn guinea birds!!!

This is the guinea birds story: Neighbors two houses over had these birds but they didn't get along with the chickens or something. So... they just kicked the guineas out the roost, just OUT. So they've come next door to our house to live. My next door neighbor went over to them and said 'your birds are out.' Stupid people said 'we know we kicked them out we don't want them anymore.' What the what??? We called animal control - fail, called humane society - fail, even called police - fail.

So the guineas are just loose on our property and drive my dogs NUTS.

They'll chase them until they're ragged. If I'm out with them that's usually fine but in the middle of the night = NO.

So now I have to go on guinea reconnaissance before I let them out. And Bobo and Meja, you just cross your legs in the middle of the night!!! mommy out

You know what's great about having black dogs at 3:00 a.m. and it's pitch black in the country?

Those little buggers got me up and insisted they MUST go out RIGHT NOW! So out we went. I of course stayed on the deck, while they meandered all over the effing where.

I'd had enough and do you think I could find them in the dark? Oh nonee nonee no.

So here's me with my shiny red rain boots (which I love by the way) traipsing all over God's creation, at 3 freaking a.m.! I was too tired to go on much of a hunt so went back to the deck crying.

After about 10, yes 10!, minutes here they come like 'Oh what you were waitin up?'

Gosh I can't believe it's been so long since I've posted! Things were pretty rough there for a minute but I think on track now.

I've been spending my energy assuring the pups are taken care of and me too of course. And frankly that's all I've been able to do. (Lordy you should see my house - OY) But hopefully that's behind us and I can get back to doing things I enjoy, like this blog and telling you about my babies.

They're good, getting a wee bit fat from not much exercise but good.

I'm going to close this for now but will post again tomorrow with pictures (of course I've still been taking pictures!)

We all got a GIGANTUAOUS present from Addie, Lucie, Hailey and their mommy. Our mommy's been sickies and this really picked her spirits up. And touched her really (not that she's not a little 'tecched' already.)

So mommy got presents and SO DID WE!!! Lots and lots of presents. Addie, Lucie and Hailey must have had to go into their foodables money to get us all these presents! And we So deserve it (hee-hee.)

My computer died. {bows head} I thought it had a virus because wierd things were happening. Web pages were copying themselves and asking for my ssn and credit card (true story). So I tried to find the worm and BING BANG BOOM no memory, no nuttin = dead.

Thankfully I've got a spare laptop from work but I have to copy pictures from storage cards and 'the camera what went swimmin.' before I can regale you with Bobo and Meja stories. And I had just copied all those photos to the dead computer and was going to delete them. Thank God I didn't.

Moral of the story - Don't give Pam electronics...
